Hearst Autos to Operate Autoweek as Digital and Experiential Brand

NEW YORK, NY (October 14, 2019)  Hearst Magazines today announced a multi-year agreement with Crain Communications to operate Autoweek as a digital and experiential brand. Hearst Autos, a division of Hearst Magazines and the world’s leading automotive media entity, will produce the digital publication on Autoweek.com, which will be hosted on Hearst Magazines’ proprietary content platform, MediaOS. The announcement was made by Hearst Magazines President Troy Young, Hearst Autos Chief Executive Officer Matt Sanchez and Crain Communications President and Chief Operating Officer KC Crain.

“Each of the Hearst Autos brands has a distinct audience and point of view,” Sanchez said. “Car and Driver serves car lovers and shoppers. Road & Track is for the auto enthusiast. Autoweek’s legacy of delivering the most current and compelling news around cars and car culture perfectly rounds out the portfolio. This iconic brand has earned the trust of auto enthusiasts and the respect of auto manufacturers through thoughtful, insightful, and passionate journalism. We will continue to invest in that excellence with ambitious content, making Autoweek the most authoritative voice on the future of driving.”

Since 1958, Autoweek has been covering all aspects of car culture, from reviews and drives to motorsports and auto shows. Hearst Autos will continue to invest in Autoweek.com, while building upon newsletters and podcasts that serve the devoted audience interested in discussing and debating all that is happening in and around the automotive industry.

“Hearst is at the forefront of consumer automotive media and digital innovation,” said KC Crain. “With this agreement, they will leverage their creative expertise, best-in-class technology services and innovative marketing solutions to continue the legacy of this storied brand. As Crain continues to grow its B2B footprint, we felt Hearst was a perfect fit for our only consumer brand.”

The Detroit-based Autoweek staff will be led by Patrick Carone, who is based at Hearst Autos headquarters in New York City. Carone will oversee all content and digital initiatives across Autoweek.

An editor, strategist and content creator with deep experience in both digital and print, Carone was most recently special projects director for Entrepreneur Media where he wrote, edited and produced articles and videos covering all aspects of entrepreneurship, specializing in the automotive, entertainment, hospitality, spirits and cannabis industries. He also held senior digital and print roles at MaximComplex and Stuff.

“Patrick intuitively knows how to identify and create unique content opportunities for enthusiast audiences,” Sanchez said. “I’m excited by his vision and look forward to the new products he and the talented Autoweek team have planned for this brand’s passionate audience.”

The multi-year agreement between Hearst Magazines and Crain Communications is effective immediately.
